NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
PROGRAM
|
|
General Information |
|
|
|
You may have noticed the addition of Neighborhood Crime Watch
signs at some of the entrances to Sommerset and wondered what
they were about.

A neighborhood
watch (also called a crime watch or neighborhood crime watch)
is an organized group of citizens devoted to crime and
vandalism prevention within a neighborhood. It builds on
the concept of a town watch from Colonial America. A
neighborhood watch may be organized on its own group or may
simply be a function of a neighborhood association or other
community association. Neighborhood watches are not
vigilante organizations. When suspecting criminal
activities, members are encouraged not to intervene but to
contact authorities.

Sommerset Involvement |
|
|
|
The Sommerset
Association Board of Directors met with the West Fargo Police
Department to express our interest in starting a neighborhood
watch program. An initial introduction meeting was held
with Officer Pete Nielsen where he explained some of the
specific details we need to know to get started. This
meeting was open to all residents of Sommerset but was not
well attended.
Officer Nielsen
also coordinated getting the signs posted at no charge to the
association.

Training |
|
Another facet of
the neighborhood watch program is that the residents of
Sommerset will be able to obtain training from the West Fargo
Police Department on various topics at
no charge. This training will be offered a minimum of 2
times per year and will be scheduled on weekday evenings.
The Board of Directors will be selecting the topics and will
email details on each training date as information becomes
available.
